The question I get often is how much maths should I learn before starting Machine Learning? And what topics to learn?This is a question that often comes to mind when we are getting started with Machine Learning. The short answer to this is Zero.Yes, You read it right!! You don't need any maths to get started with Machine Learning.Now coming to a long answer, if you look at the maths behind Machine Learning, it is endless and you will probably need to learn this maths throughout your career. But should you do it all before getting started with Machine Learning? Absolutely not.Because, your final goal is to understand the Machine Learning concepts and apply them to a real life situation. If you spend too much time learning mathematics, you will probably lose motivation to learn Machine Learning.Think of it as learning layer by layer, at the first iteration you get a sense of what is going on inside the ML algorithms, the overview and intuition. At the next iteration you will probably learn some mathematics that is driving the algorithm and so on.This is a good way to approach ML and it makes ML a lot less scary.Does this mean Mathematics is not required for ML?Well, actually the more maths you know related to ML, the better you become in understanding the algorithms at a deeper level.But you can do it with time. Everything need not be completed before you get started.Thope this helps.

ML을 배우기 전 mathematics에 대해 알아야 할까에 대한 의견.

이 의견은 단순히 시작 전에 수학을 다 하려면,

당신의 모든 커리어를 투자해야하고,

그만큼 시작하기도 어려울 뿐더라,

수학을 모두 하고 ML을 하는 것은 크게 좋은 방향성은 아니라는 것을 제시하고 있다.

그렇다면,

우리는 어떻게 해야할까?

수학에 대한 중등 수학을 기본으로 배운 사람들이 바로 ML에 뛰어들긴 쉽지 않아보인다.

적어도 미분적분학 수준의 고등수학을 기초로 베이스로 한다면,

괜찮을까.

나는 그마저도 잘 기억해내지 못해 잘 모르겠다.

그래서 나는 개념에 대한 이해가 필요하면 그때 그때 나타나 공부를 한다.

그것이 곧 내가 할 수 있는 일이다.

모든 것을 다 알고 시작하기에는 너무 벅차다.

양도 많을 뿐더러.

그렇다면 알고리즘에 대한 이해를 위해서는 우리는 기초적인 배경지식은 필요해보인다.

수학을 더 많이 하여 알고리즘에 대한 더 깊은 이해를 가져가면 좋지만,

그것은 자신의 분야를 타는 것 같다.

자신이 진정으로 원하는 것에 더 투자를 하는 것이 맞는 것으로 보인다.

그것이 ML Engineer가 아닐까.
